Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit: 18 to 40 years (as on 01/01/2015)

Educational Qualification:

  • Pass in Madhyamik Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or equivalent
  • Elementary knowledge in Computer operation with typing speed of 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali for at least 6 months

Pay Scale

Pay Band-2 (Rs. 5,400/- – 25,200/-), Initial Pay in the Pay Band – Rs.6,240/-, Grade Pay- Rs. 2,600/-

Application Fee

All categories except Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Persons with Disabilities (40% and above) need to pay Rs. 200/- for examination and Rs. 20/- for processing (Total: Rs. 220/-)

Selection Process

Candidates will be selected based on competitive examination consisting of two parts.

Exam Pattern

Part-I: 100 marks, 100 questions of 1 mark each

  • English: 30 marks
  • General Studies: 40 marks
  • Arithmetic: 30 marks

Part-II: Conventional type questions

  • Group-A: English (50 marks)
  • Group-B: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali (50 marks each)

Duration: Part-I – 1 hour 30 minutes, Part-II – 1 hour

Syllabus

Part-I:

  • English: Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms
  • General Studies: Everyday science, current events, Indian History and Geography
  • Arithmetic: Divisibility, Fractions, Decimals, HCF, LCM, Partnership, Average, Ratio, Percentage, Simple Interest, Profit & Loss, Time & Distance, Area

Part-II:

  • Group-A: English – Report drafting, passage condensing, translation from regional languages to English
  • Group-B: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali – Report drafting, passage condensing, translation from English to regional languages
