Gujarat High Court Rejected 10% Economically Backward Class (EBC) Quota
The High Court of Gujarat has rejected the 10% quota for Economically Backward Class (EBC) Reservation, dealing a setback to the BJP Government’s affirmative action initiative.
Background of EBC Reservation
The EBC Reservation was announced by the BJP Government on 29th April, 2016 and was scheduled to take effect from 1st May, 2016. This move was aimed at providing educational and employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged sections of society who did not fall under existing reservation categories.
However, the implementation of this quota faced legal challenges, culminating in the High Court’s decision to reject the 10% EBC quota.
