Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 2018 Notification

The Indian Air Force – IAF has announced recruitment for courses starting in January 2019. They are offering Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission (PC) / Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical and Non-technical) Branches. Additionally, online applications are invited for PC/SSC in Flying Branch through NCC Special Entry Scheme and Meteorology Entry.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT 2018

Flying Branch

  • Educational Qualification: 60% marks in Graduation with any discipline along with Physics & Mathematics at class 10+2 Or E/B.Tech or 60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India)
  • Age limit: Between 02 January 1995 to 01 January 1999 (Both Dates inclusive). Upper age limit will be relaxed up to 26 years if you have valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India)

Ground Duty Technical

  • Educational Qualification: Obtained 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline along with Physics & Mathematics at class 10+2 Or complete 4 years graduation or integration post graduation in Engineering or Technology or 60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India)
  • Age limit: Between 02 January 1993 to 01 January 1999 (both dates inclusive)

Ground Duty Non-Technical

  • Educational Qualification: Secured 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline and 60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India). Additional criteria apply for other sections under Ground Duty Non-Technical.
  • Age limit: Between 02 January 1993 to 01 January 1999 (both dates inclusive)

Online Testing and Fee Structure

For the first time, online testing will be conducted for AFCAT entry in various AFCAT centers. Candidates registering for AFCAT entry must pay Rs. 250/- as examination fee. However, candidates registering for Meteorology entry and NCC Special entry are exempt from payment.

Selection Procedure

  • Stage 1: Intelligence test (screening test)
  • Stage 2: Psychological, Group Tests and Interview organized over five subsequent days
  • For Flying Branch: Candidates must undergo Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test, conducted once in a lifetime

AFCAT 2018 Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Candidates applying for flying branch and ground duty need to appear for AFCAT only. Those applying for ground duty technical must appear for both AFCAT and EKT.

  • The exam duration is 2 hours
  • Questions cover Verbal Ability, General Awareness, Numerical Ability, Reasoning and Aptitude Test
  • All questions are multiple choice
  • EKT exam duration is 45 minutes

Syllabus Details

  • Reasoning and military aptitude: Verbal skills and spatial ability
  • Verbal ability in English: Error detection, Comprehension, vocabulary testing, synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion
  • Numerical ability: Decimal fraction, ratio, average, simplification, profit and loss, simple interest
  • General awareness: Art, Culture, geography, environment, history, current affairs, politics, basic science, civics
